Group B : Skills Assessment Criteria:
Qualification(s) assessed at AQF Bachelor degree or higher degree with a highly relevant field of study and at least one year of post-qualification
highly relevant employment at an appropriate skill level in the last five years;
OR
Qualification(s) assessed at AQF Bachelor degree or higher degree with an additional qualification at least Australian Qualifications Framework
(AQF) Diploma level in a highly relevant field of study and at least two years of post qualification highly relevant employment at an appropriate skill
level in the last five years;
OR
Qualification(s) assessed at AQF Bachelor degree or higher degree without a highly relevant field of study and at least three years of post qualification
highly relevant employment at an appropriate skill level in the last five years;
Note: For pre-qualification employment (if all of your employment is before your qualification assessed at the AQF bachelor degree level), five years of
highly relevant employment in addition to at least one year of highly relevant employment at an appropriate skill level in the last five years.
Requirements for Skills Assessment
This occupation requires a qualification assessed as comparable to the education level of an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor degree or higher degree and in a field highly relevant to the nominated occupation.
In addition to the above, it is essential for applicants to meet the following employment criteria:
- at least one year of post-qualification employment at an appropriate skill level,
- undertaken in the last five years,
- working 20 hours or more per week, and
- highly relevant to the nominated occupation.
If the qualification is not in a highly relevant field, then the applicant must have:
- three years of post-qualification employment experience at an appropriate skill level,
- undertaken in the last five years,
- working 20 hours or more per week, and
- highly relevant to the nominated occupation.
This is reduced to two years if there is an additional qualification at least at AQF Diploma level in a highly relevant field.
If employment has occurred before completion of qualification, then five years of highly relevant employment experience are required in addition to at least one year of highly relevant employment at an appropriate skill level in the last five years.
Please note in order to achieve a successful Skills Assessment Outcome, a positive assessment for both qualifications and employment is required.
A Copywriter designs and composes written material to advertise products or services (ANZSCO).
Highly relevant fields of study would include Copywriting, Journalism, Communication and Media Studies and Advertising. Other fields of study may be considered on a case-by-case basis where it is highly relevant to the subsequent employment and the program of study contains sufficient units related to Copywriting.
If an applicant’s employment involves significant additional responsibilities as their primary focus, they may consider whether their employment would be more highly relevant to any other occupation classified in ANZSCO including: 212412 Newspaper or Periodical Editor, 212413 Print Journalist, 212414 Radio Journalist, 212415 Technical Writer, 212416 Television Journalist, 212499 Journalists and Other Writers nec (which includes specialisations such as Blogger, Critic, Editorial Assistant and Photo Journalist), 225111 Advertising Specialist, 225311 Public Relations Professional or 225113 Marketing Specialist.
Applicants must ensure they nominate the right occupation which is highly relevant to their qualifications and employment.

Other qualifications may be accepted on a case-by-case basis if the subsequent employment is highly relevant, and the program of study contains sufficient units related to Copywriting. For example:

Employment
Highly relevant tasks include, but are not limited to:
- determining advertising approach by consulting clients and management, and studying products to establish principal selling features
- writing advertisements for press, radio, television, cinema screens, billboards, catalogues and shop displays
Additional tasks may include:
- defining themes, style and length of copy with clients
- presenting ideas and concepts to clients
- planning and writing text and headlines for brochures and press releases, annual reports, documents, speeches and other sales and promotional material
- may name products, write copy for packaging, and write other sales and promotional material
- may write scripts for radio and television announcers to provide continuity for broadcasts
- assisting Art Directors with ideas for advertising and promotion, often thinking up names for products and the slogans that appear on the packaging and other promotional material
