Qualification(s) assessed at Australian Bachelor degree or higher degree with a highly relevant field of study and at least one year of post qualification
highly relevant employment at an appropriate skill level in the last five years.
Requirements for Skills Assessment
This occupation requires a qualification assessed as comparable to the education level of an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor Degree or higher degree and in a field highly relevant to the nominated occupation.
In addition to the above, it is essential for applicants to meet the following employment criteria:
- at least one year of post-qualification employment at an appropriate skill level,
- undertaken in the last five years,
- working 20 hours or more per week, and
- highly relevant to the nominated occupation.
Please note in order to achieve a successful Skills Assessment Outcome, a positive assessment for both qualifications and employment is required.
A Cartographer applies scientific, mathematical and cartographic design principles to prepare and revise maps, charts and other forms of cartographic output (ANZSCO).
Highly relevant fields of study would include a major focus in Cartography, the study of graphically representing the constructed and natural features of the earth in the form of maps.
This occupation is not to be confused with the occupation of 232214 Other Spatial Scientist (which includes the specialisation of Geographic Information Systems Manager) or the occupation of 232212 Surveyor as these occupations area separately classified in ANZSCO.
A positive assessment of both qualifications and employment is required for a positive
Qualification
AQF Bachelor degree or higher. This includes qualifications assessed at AQF Bachelor, Master and Doctoral level.

The qualifications listed below, with a major in Chemistry, may be assessed as highly relevant on a case-by-case basis. A major in Chemistry would include subjects such as analytical, physical, organic and inorganic chemistry with an additional focus on modern applications such as nanotechnology, analytical and environmental chemistry, polymer science and surface science.

Employment
Highly relevant tasks include, but are not limited to:
» Conducting experiments and tests to identify the chemical composition and reactive properties of natural substances and processed materials
» Analysing and conducting research to develop theories, techniques and processes, and testing the reliability of outcomes under different conditions
» Developing practical applications of experimental and research findings.
Additional tasks may include:
» Developing procedures, instruments, recording and testing systems to be used in experiments
» Developing and monitoring quality control procedures for the manufacture of products in plants or factories
» Preparing or supervising the preparation of laboratory reports, scientific papers and reports on specifications and standards
» May supervise and coordinate the work of technicians
» May test products or materials to ensure compliance with government health laws, and standards of quality and puritys
» May use micro-organisms to convert substances into new compounds.
